History of Yoga

Yoga is a 5,000-year-old discipline that originated in India. Yoga literally means to “yoke” or to bind, and refers to the union of mind and body. The path of yoga has eight limbs. Asana, or hatha yoga refers to the physical practice of yoga and is one of the eight limbs. Hatha yoga encompasses the practice of asanas or postures and pranayama or breathwork. There are many benefits of hatha yoga, including but not limited to: building strength, increasing flexibility, relaxation, focusing the mind and enhancing the mind-body connection.

Pilates is a system of coordinated movements of the body developed nearly a century ago by Joseph H. Pilates. Joseph Pilates was inspired by many different disciplines and drew from yoga, dance and martial arts to create his method of “contrology”, a series of exercises today known as mat work, addressing the core, or what he coined the “powerhouse” of the body: the lower abdominals, lower back, hips and buttocks.

The Pilates method is focused on connecting the breath with the movements, thus connecting the mind and body. The exercises are non-impact on the joints. Most exercises are done on the floor on your back or your belly without props using the resistance of your own body weight. The exercises go through the full range of motion of the joints and originate from the core with the goal of stretching and strengthening muscles. The results are long, lean muscles without building bulk.

Testimonials

Our Blog

It is with a heavy heart after much debate and consideration that we are temporarily closing
our studio doors for the safety of our yoga community and the greater community outside our doors.
The plan is to close at least until the end of month, possibly longer.

We will keep you informed of any changes going forward.

First of all, I'd like to say THANK YOU to this amazing community we have here at PURE for all

of your support and well wishes during this trying time. We are saddened that we will not see all of your smiling faces in the studio.

If you have a 5 or a 10 class package, we will gladly extend the expiration at this time.

We will pause autorenewals at your request as well.
You will also be able to use your current packages on our new platform.

We are implementing a virtual studio. We have begun to live stream our classes from the studio through Zoom.

You can access Zoom on your laptop or other devices including your smart phone or iPad by going to www.zoom.com
or downloading the app.Click on JOIN Meeting and enter a code which will be emailed to you.

It is a great way to stay connected to others in this disconnected time.

Join us virtually for yoga, barre and Pilates classes at scheduled times.

The virtual classes are up and running and we are excited to share this new platform with you.

Please use mindbodyonline, our scheduling system to pre-register and pay or use a current package for our virtual classes.

Monthly unlimited and yearly members will have unlimited access.
You can also download the free app, mindbody to view our most updated schedule and book classes.
When you receive your email confirmation you will receive a code to enter to access the class online through Zoom.

Please bear with us as we implement these changes and keep you up to date.

Our plan is to develop an online library that you will have access to as well.

Be well. Sending you all virtual hugs
